AFTER APPEARANCES ON THE RUDY VALLEE SHOW IN NINETEEN THIRTY-SEVEN, SKELTON BECAME A REGULAR ON NBC'S AVALON TIME IN NINETEEN THIRTY-NINE, WHICH WAS SPONSORED BY AVALON CIGARETTES. ON OCTOBER SEVENTH, NINETEEN FORTY-ONE, SKELTON PREMIERED HIS OWN RADIO PROGRAM, THE RALEIGH CIGARETTE PROGRAM. THE SHOW INCLUDED MUSIC AND ROUTINES INVOLVING A NUMBER OF RECURRING CHARACTERS, ONE OF WHICH IS JUNIOR, "A MEAN WIDDLE KID", WHO'S POPULAR PHRASE "I DOOD IT!" BECAME A PART OF THE AMERICAN LEXICON.
